Is Little Falls Becoming a Sporting Town?

DSC00624A couple of posts ago, I discussed current trends that are showing up in Little Falls, MN, including running and walking for health and dog walking. Recently, a couple of new businesses have opened in Little Falls: Shirley Mae’s Outfitters and Touright Bicycle Shop. Shirley Mae’s rents out kayaks and canoes. Touright sells, rents, and services bikes. Both of these are related to outdoor sporting activities.

Not too many years ago, the Fitness Connection moved from its smallish space downtown to a much larger, brand new facility in mid-town Little Falls. Anytime Fitness also entered the local market not terribly long ago.

While Pap’s Sport Shop has been around for over 85 years and the St. Francis Health & Rec Center is also long-lived, there seems to be new energy in Little Falls around fitness and outdoor sporting activities. The Little Falls School District is currently seeking support from voters on a new field house, which seems to be part of this overall trend.

In searching for an identity for the community, could Little Falls become known as a sporting and fitness town? What other sporting activities would you like to see offered in addition to what’s already in town?
